My early memory of all the shame and guilt came when a family member had abused me from 3 to 6 years old. Once I got older, I realized that it was wrong. I told my mother, and they did not believe me so as a child growing up, I always harbored feelings of inadequacy.

At the age of 11 I was raped and beaten by a friend of my fathers. And that is just the beginning of the abuse. I shut down and did not do anything but go to school, because my mother's instructions were for us to finish school.

I was smart as a child and was promoted from the 5th grade to 7th at the age of 13 and again when I was 14, I was promoted from 7th grade to the 9th grade. My family did not know that from the age of 10 to 17 that I was on drugs. I was main lining by the age of 12. I used drugs as a confidence booster, and it suppressed the bad feeling and emotional baggage from the rapes and beatings.
